Classical Vlogues
This video collection is a spring 2021 acting project in the Theatre & Dance department at the University of Texas at Austin. Partially inspired by The Guardian’s Shakespeare Solos series, Classical Vlogues is a collection of 5 solo performances of classical texts on camera. We rehearsed over zoom, and then followed special safety protocols for filming each performance at a unique exterior location. Each is framed in a vlog aesthetic that gives a personal snapshot of a social-media-sized portion of the classic character’s journey. The challenge for the actors was to find a relationship with the character and text that matched the intimacy of the medium.
